Janet Sells Atlanta: Grant Park Condos

In-town Atlanta offers a wonderful combination of the suburban lifestyle with close proximity to a bustling downtown, and the Grant Park neighborhood is a perfect example. Grant Park is home to one of the largest collections of Victorian architecture in all of Georgia. These homes create a distinct, old-world charm and feel to the entire neighborhood.

Large, two-story Victorian mansions provide astonishing views of the park, as do the more modern-style homes, townhouses, and condominiums.

The neighborhood surrounds Grant Park, a 131-acre expanse of green which is the fourth-largest park in the Greater Atlanta area. There are trails and sidewalks for walking and running, and plenty of space for other outdoor activities. Annual events like the Summer Shade Festival also take place within the boundaries of the park. Zoo Atlanta (located within the park’s boundaries) attracts more than a million visitors per year.

Grant Park is one of many areas in Atlanta listed on the National Registry of Historic Places (NRHP). Another NRHP neighborhood, Cabbagetown, borders Grant Park to the north. The historic Oakland Cemetery, where many Civil War dead, governors, mayors, and other historic figures are buried, occupies 48 acres of the park.

For the growing family, there are excellent schools beginning at a Pre-K level, such as the Grant Park Cooperative Preschool, Neighborhood Charter School, and St. Nicholas Orthodox Academy.

The Grant Park Farmer’s Market, open every Sunday from April through December, was voted the best in Atlanta by Creative Loafing and Atlanta magazine.
