There is no shortage of shopping and dining in East Cobb. Residents turn to either Merchant’s Walk, The Avenue at East Cobb, or Paper Mill Village. Merchant’s Walk is often considered the heart of the community and is a 367,600 square-foot open-air shopping center with retailers, restaurants, and a movie theater. Some of the tenants include Whole Foods Market, Marlow’s Tavern, SEED Kitchen & Bar, Old Navy, PetSmart, ULTA beauty, and much more.

The Avenue East Cobb is a horseshoe-shaped open-air market that is unique in its “town square” design style. Paper Mill Village is a collection of 33 buildings that are linked by over a mile of walkways. There is a mix of retailers and restaurants, and the village is the site for monthly food truck night from April to October every year.

Recreation

For a family-friendly afternoon, head to East Cobb Park, the park that was developed by a non-profit citizens group of residents. Enjoy picnic facilities, play areas, and walking trails. For those eager to check out local wildlife and plants, the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is a great place to do so. With 2.5 miles of hiking trails, a boat launch, and covered pavilions, it’s a great place to spend time in nature.

As anyone within the Atlanta area will tell you, there is no better way to celebrate summer than floating down the Chattahoochee River. Residents of East Cobb are lucky, and can easily “Shoot the Hooch” with the nearby raft rental located just off Johnson Ferry Road.

The area is also home to equestrian horse stables and an ice skating rink, and it is a huge baseball community. So, rest assured that there are many opportunities to get kids involved in sports in the East Cobb community.

Check out the vibrant art scene at the Marietta-Cobb Museum of Art or one of the many local art galleries.

East Cobb Schools

Overall, the East Cobb area is known for its great schools and is a very popular place for young professionals looking to start a family. Public schools located in Marietta proper are operated by the city of Marietta, while the remainder of the schools outside the city limits in Cobb County are operated by the Cobb County School District. The city of Marietta has just one high school, Marietta High School, grades 9-12; one middle school, Marietta Middle School, grades 7 and 8; Marietta Sixth Grade Academy; and there are several elementary schools: A.L. Burruss, Dunleith, Hickory Hills, Lockheed, Marietta Center for Advanced Academics, Park Street, Sawyer Road, and West Side. The town of Marietta is also home to The Walker School, a private pre-k through 12th grade school.

The school system currently employs roughly 1,200 people. MCS is an International Baccalaureate World School district. In 2008, MCS became only the second IB World School district in Georgia authorized to offer the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) for grades 6-10. MCS is one of only a few school systems nationwide able to provide the full IB (K-12) curriculum.

Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU), and Life University are also located in Marietta, serving more than 20,000 students in more than 90 programs of study.
