National Black Arts Festival
The National Black Arts Festival is a highlight of Atlanta’s event calendar. The festival showcases talented artists of African descent in areas such as performing arts, literature, and visual arts, along with providing educational programs. The 2016 season continues the 28 years of tradition and runs July through October. This season’s main focus is on theater. Be sure to check it out!
Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival
On July 20th at the Goat Farms Art Center, chefs and bartenders from around the city rise to the occasion. Their challenge is to create delectable dishes and drinks using a common ingredient – tomatoes. You won’t want to miss out on this tasty festival!
Atlanta Ice Cream Festival
What better way to beat the summer heat than with ice cream? Located in Piedmont Park on July 23rd, this is an event the whole family will enjoy! There’s no better way to celebrate National Ice Cream Month than with local ice cream, gelato, and games!
Atlanta Zombie Pub Crawl
Calling all Walking Dead Fans! If you’ve been experiencing zombie withdrawals, we’ve got one for you! On July 26th get ready to drink like the dead. The Diesel Filling Station is hosting the 7th annual Zombie Pub Crawl. Professional makeup artists give you a realistic “undead” appearance as you make your way around the Highland bars.

Decatur BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass Festival
An old favorite, the Decatur BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass Festival annually hosts seven hours of the best blues and bluegrass and barbecue you can find! All day long, bands take the stage while attendees munch on some of the finest BBQ in the south. Now a tradition in the city of Decatur, be sure to check it out on August 13th for cold beer, mouthwatering food, and live music!
Piedmont Park Arts Festival
The Piedmont Park Arts Festival is something the whole family will enjoy! Join the 8th annual celebration the weekend of August 13th – 14th in, you guessed it: Piedmont Park. The various disciplines and artists appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds. The festival features over 250 painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelers, glass blowers, and more!
Atlanta Bar-B-Q Festival
If you weren’t able to head to Decatur, don’t worry! You’ll get your barbecue fill at the Atlanta Bar-B-Q Festival! Taking place August 12th – 13th at Atlantic Station, you’ll get your fill of mouthwatering sections of pork, lamb, beef, chicken, and bison. Sample bourbon, watch cooking demos, and listen to live music while over 50 pit masters compete against each other.
Festival Peachtree Latino
Festival Peachtree Latino celebrates Atlanta’s Latino community with music, dancing, and food, along with sports and arts and crafts. It is the largest multicultural event in the entire Southeast. The family friendly event takes place August 28th in Piedmont Park.
The weekend of August 29 – September 1 marks the weekend Dragon Con comes to Atlanta. The cosplay convention brings together thousands of sci-fi fans in the downtown area. This year Downtown Hyatt, Hilton Atlanta, Courtyard Marriott, Sheridan Atlanta, and the Westin hotels host the event.
